I advocate for artists so that they can feel safe & brave on stage.
Intimacy Direction is choreography specifically created to simulate intimate scenes for the stage.
Intimacy Directors collaborate with actors & the production team to create consent-based boundaries so that everyone involved can feel safe, confident & inspired.
The world of theatre and how we consent to do our work is evolving and becoming a game-changer in our industry.
I will help you prepare and create safe, dynamic and repeatable storytelling so that everyone involved in the production can focus on their art with confidence.
As I continue to educate myself through the art of intimacy direction and coordination, watch for my up-coming programs, including workshops for actors, directors, producers and technicians.
Together we create consent based, safe simulations of intimacy in the performing arts.
Having been in the performing arts for over 30 years, as an actor/singer/dancer, choreographer, director, ASM and even a “stage-mom”, I know a lot of perspectives of the theater world. In these unprecedented times, the need for awareness and intention to help support actors’ boundaries and consent will help them to tell these stories more bravely, effectively and beautifully. That’s why I have embarked on this journey, to become an Intimacy Director & Educator.
Intimacy Direction is for...
Actors & Performers
An actor is constantly put into vulnerable situations during rehearsals and performances. Intimacy direction helps actors feel safe on stage. Like fight choreography or dance, intimate scenes are no longer made-up as you go along, they are carefully choreographed so that actors can do their best work with consent, confidence and clarity . I will support you by combining my knowledge of the 5 Pillar model created by IDC: (Consent, Context, Communication, Choreography and Closure) and the 5 Best Practices by TIE: (Consent, Boundaries,Desexualized Process, Choreography and Documentation).
Directors & Producers
How we create great, theatrical storytelling is evolving. During these unprecedented times you might be feeling uneasy about how to fully instill racial equity, create safe boundaries, and understand consent while creating beautiful art. I help relieve those uncertainties by giving you tools to work with to create an environment that allows all members of your staff to feel included and informed, educated and safe. I will support you by combining my knowledge of the 5 Pillar model created by IDC: (Consent, Context, Communication, Choreography and Closure) and the 5 Best Practices by TIE: (Consent, Boundaries,Desexualized Process, Choreography and Documentation).
Stage Managers & Technicians
Behind-the-scenes work can sometimes be the most vulnerable and difficult to navigate. I will give you a tool-kit of information to help you understand the language and the boundaries that you will need to understand so that everyone can feel confident and safe in the work place. I will teach you how intimacy direction can support you and your team by combining my knowledge of the 5 Pillar model created by IDC: (Consent, Context, Communication, Choreography and Closure) and the 5 Best Practices by TIE: (Consent, Boundaries,Desexualized Process, Choreography and Documentation).
